OSU HALE — The HALE Team
The HALE Team

HALE's 2025-2026 Team

Building the Future of Aerospace

HALE brings together students from across engineering disciplines to design, build, and test liquid rocket systems. Our team is organized into specialized subteams, each focusing on critical aspects of rocket development.

From freshmen to graduate students, HALE provides hands-on experience that goes beyond the classroom, bringing industry knowledge to the collegiate level, and creating the next generation of aerospace engineers.

Propulsion

Propulsion

The Propulsion team is responsible for the Mira 2 engine and all fluid components and systems in the rocket. This team ensures that all systems related to propellants and propulsion are designed, tested, and optimized.

  • Engine design and analysis
  • Fluid system components
  • Hot fire testing and optimization
  • Performance characterization
Test & Launch

Test & Launch

Test & Launch manages the Vertical Test and Launch Stand (VTLS), HALE's ground support equipment. This team is responsible for the launch trailer and truss systems that ensure controlled and safe testing and launches.

  • VTLS design and maintenance
  • Remote propellant fueling and safety systems
  • Ground support equipment
  • Testing and launching operations
Structures & Recovery

Structures & Recovery

The Structures & Recovery team designs and builds the airframe, structure, fins, and recovery systems, ensuring the safe return and flight of our vehicle.

  • Airframe design and manufacturing
  • Structural analysis and testing
  • Parachute and recovery systems
  • Flight profile simulations
  • Active vehicle control systems
Avionics

Avionics

The Avionics team develops the electronic and software systems that monitor, control, and communicate with the rocket throughout its flight and testing.

  • Custom avionics suite
  • Sensor integration and data acquisition
  • Radio communication systems
  • Software development and testing
  • Live telemetry dashboard
Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

While each subteam has specialized responsibilities, developing a rocket at this scale requires constant collaboration. Every design decision impacts multiple teams, and the success of the project relies on communication across all disciplines.
