 Stereo-Video Camera UAV: Scanning the Seas

The stereo-video UAV team is building a drone mounted stereo camera system and software package able to measure smaller objects with greater accuracy than currently possible. The project will be initially applied to marine ecological research and tested with sea turtles

Sub-teams:

Software:

  • Migrate existing software written in MATLAB to Python

  • Improve the camera calibration process

  • Improve measurement accuracy

  • Add a GUI

  • Add image filtering to aid in identifying animals under the water

Mechanical/electrical:

  • Design a SVC rig to attach to a DJI Mavic Air 2

  • Lightweight the SVC rig to maximize maneuverability and flight time

  • Improve measurement accuracy
